The holiday season is upon us all again. A time for family, community, remembrance, and the creation of new memories. This week we in America celebrate Thanksgiving, a holiday which brings to mind many, many fond memories for me. Isn't it a shame that society seems to desire nothing more than to rid itself of this great day? Certainly the break up of the nuclear family and the technology induced need to vent and to criticize for the sake of clicks have played a strong hand against anything traditional. As if tradition is always some horrible thing that needs to be thrown away.
Personally, I find that tradition is one of our greatest freedoms. The way we remember and commemorate. The way we come together, unplug from the chaos of the everyday, and celebrate one other and with one other. A tradition of thinking of others, and not just ourselves. A tradition of religion and religious freedom, or not be religious. Yet, out in the world, there are so many voices that scream out against family, against freedom, against hope calling for the end of anything that reminds them of their own anger, sadness, and loss. That is what it boils down to really. Unhappy people only desire to make everyone else unhappy too, by attacking any tiny little bit of light and hope that others have. They are alone in their millions. It is a sad way to live.
This Thanksgiving I have a wish, and that wish is for more people to find happiness instead of anger. I also ask that those of you who are inclined to pray do so for those who have cast aside the spiritual side of their existence. Pray for them to find the happiness and peace to understand those of us who have been blessed with a respect of tradition. I'm not trying to prosthelytize, just to wish that more people could be happy and kinder to even their foes for a little while. Hatred and anger lead to nothing but self destruction and suffering. I wish people to find some kind of fulfillment that doesn't involve hurting everyone around them.
For those of you who know me, and those of you who are just meeting me, have a blessed and happy THANKSgiving. Remeber to be thankful, and to express that gratitude in real and tangible ways.
P.S. If you have been reading my stories, don't forget to leave reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes and Noble, Schuler Books, and here at camperehwon.com. Don't be so shy about leaving comments or greetings! I am anxious to hear what you think of my novels, especially Ghosts of Camp Erehwon! Have the best Thanksgiving ever!
